Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act of 2020 Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund (HEERF)

The recently signed Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act of 2020, provides the US Department of Education (ED) millions of dollars in emergency funds under the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund (HEERF) program for colleges to distribute to students who are in need of support during this unprecedented time. More specifically, the U.S. Department of Education (ED) has stated that HEERF grant funds must be used by students to assist with expenses related to the disruption of campus operations due to coronavirus, including eligible expenses under a student’s indirect cost of attendance, such as food, housing, course materials, technology, health care, and child care.
